Obituary:
Hazel Marie Ethell was born July 19, 1930 in Marysville, Iowa the daughter of Leonard Goemaat and Pearl (Pettyjohn) Goemaat.
She was raised in the Marysville and Attica areas, and graduated from Attica High School with the Class of 1948. Hazel worked at the Collins Hospital in Knoxville, as an aid, for several years. She then went to work for the Knoxville V.A. Hospital where she worked in escort service. Hazel retired from the V.A. after 20 years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, country music festivals and watching the Hawkeyes. Hazel also loved spending time with her family, and she especially enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s school events. She was also a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Knoxville.
Hazel passed away on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Griffin Nursing Center at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 2 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Chet.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Steven Eugene Ethell, Scott Edwin Ethell and Sharon Elaine Wallace all of Knoxville; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; her brother, Leonard “Junior” Goemaat of Lovilia and two sisters, Iverna DeMoss of Knoxville and Jane McKim of Albia and many other family members and friends.
