Barbara Ann Koons was born April 24, 1959 in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard Thompson and Audrey (Hopkins) Thompson.
Barb grew up in Knoxville, graduating with the Knoxville High School class of 1977. She was united in marriage to Gary Koons on July 23, 1988 in Knoxville. The two made their home in Melcher-Dallas. Barb worked at Hawkeye Health, Alco and most recently as the photo clerk at Wal-Mart where she retired in March of 2008 after 7 years of service.
She loved to collect teddy bears, Boyds Bears, Cherished Teddies, and also the Kmart Christmas Bears, which she had all but one of.
Barb passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at her home at the age of 50 years, 9 months and 7 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a half sister, Judy Younker.
Survivors include her husband, Gary; children, Mike Owens, LaShana (John) Milburn and Eric Owens all of Melcher-Dallas; step-children, Gary Dean (Jody) Koons, Jr. of Carlisle, Debbie (Jon) Meeks of Indianola; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Cathy Moses, Kenny (Loretta) Thompson, Myron (Rhonda) Thompson, Jerry (Zo) Thompson, Paul (Anita) Thompson, Terry (Mary) Thompson all of Knoxville, and Len Thompson of Nebraska, along with other relatives and many friends.
