Gilbert Anthony “Fish” Ortiz III was born October 27, 1993 in Dallas, Texas. When he was 2 ½ years old he along with his family moved to Knoxville, Iowa. Gilbert graduated with the Knoxville GOAL Alternative High School Class of 2012. While still in High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, in October 2012 he left for basic training in San Diego and he was currently stationed at Camp Horno in Camp Pendleton. Gilbert had attained the rank of Lance Corporal making his full title 2nd Battalion 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division Echo Company 2nd Platoon AKA “Dirty Deuce” 2nd Squad 1st Team. He felt it a privileged to serve The United States of America along with his “brothers”. In his spare time “Fish” enjoyed being outdoors, bonfires and spending lots of time with family and friends. He was passionate about History, enjoyed music and drawing. Gilbert left this world surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, in Des Moines, at the age of 21 years. He was preceded in death by grandparents and a brother, Gabriel O’Brien. Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Lisa and Jerry Addington of Knoxville; siblings: Stephen Visser (Katie), Lacey Thomas (Josh Reynolds), Collin O’Brien and Gracie Ortiz; step-siblings: Tiffany Runck (Jared), Amanda Trimble (Dan), Tina Bell (Ryan) and Matt Addington (Keishia); maternal grandmother, Linda Marshall (Ed); great-grandmother, Lori Linch and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
