Alvina Renae “Alex” Steele was born May 28, 1951 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the daughter of Floyd and Adeline (Espeland) Pope.
She was raised in Knoxville, Iowa and Phoenix, Arizona and graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1969. Through the years, Alvina had lived in Arizona and Knoxville. She was married to Robert Kaster and they had a son, Shayne together. Alvina later married Robert Steele on October 2, 1982 and the couple made Knoxville their home. Alvina had several jobs throughout her life including the ASCS Office and Wells Fargo bank in Knoxville. Her favorite job was at the Prairie Rose Tearoom in Prairie City.
In her spare time, Alvina enjoyed yardwork, flower gardening and visiting tearooms. Her greatest joy was family and Alvina especially loved her grandkids.
Alvina passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at her home, after a three year battle with ovarian cancer, at the age of 66 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Pope.
Those left to honor Alvina’s memory include her husband, Bob; sons: Cory (Jody) Steele and Shayne Kaster all of Knoxville; 5 grandchildren; mother, Adeline Pope; siblings: Marcia (Darrell) Allen of Knoxville, Johanna (Stan) Peterson of Algona and Daniel (Teresa) Pope of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Alvina Renae “Alex” Steele, age 66 of Knoxville, will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family. Alvina will be cremated following the service and interment will be in Graceland Cemetery – Knoxville, Iowa at a later date.
Memorial may be made to the family.
The family invites relatives and friends to the Knoxville First church of the Nazarene Fellowship Hall for lunch following the committal service.
