Bonnie Mae Bartell was born January 21, 1963 in Bussey, Iowa the daughter of John and Alice (DeJong) Wales.

She was raised in Bussey and attended Twin Cedars schools. Bonnie worked as a C.N.A. and retired from the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. In October of 2007 she was united in marriage to Rick Bartell. She enjoyed painting statues and other crafting. Bonnie’s greatest joy was her family, and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandkids.

Bonnie passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 63 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Wales; brother, John Wales and grandson, David Weeks.

Those left to cherish Bonnie’s memory include her children: Tiffany (Matt) Wilson, Steven (Savannah) Wales, Jennifer (Russ) Darland and Dustin Vancenbrock; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Cullen, David, Ally, Ryan, Ty, Vanessa, Skylar, Lexi, Makayla, Makenna, and Emma who will be having the first great-granddaughter soon; siblings: Raymond, Roger, Kevin and Kathy and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society.
