David Walter Brent was born March 16, 1948 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Fred Edmund and Nita Maxine (Johnson) Brent.

David graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1966. He then attended Centerville Community College. On July 20, 1968 David was united in marriage to Vicky Wright. He was a member of the Iowa Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972. David worked at Big Bear and drove a truck for Marion County before buying his own tractor trailer. He was an over-the-road independent contractor for 43 years and logged over 5 million miles. In 2008, David was named the Iowa Truck Driver of the Year. He retired in July of 2011.

David collected and restored several Case tractors through the years. He also pitched horseshoes in many tournaments. David was also a dog lover and the animals were naturally drawn to him.

David passed away Monday, June 8, 2026 at MercyOne, in Des Moines, at the age of 78 years.

In addition to his parents, Nita and Fred, David was preceded in death by his sister, Marjo Ann.

Those left to honor David’s memory include his loving wife of 57 years, Vicky; children: Teri (Rob) Netusil and Jeff (Tammy) Brent; grandchildren: Carlee Brent (Boyd Bradshaw) and Taryn Brent and great-grandson, Brooks Bradshaw. David is also survived by his brother, Lew (Connie) Brent and their daughter, Melinda Brent and her son, Austin Poortinga and many other family members and friends.
