David Carr Conway, age 65, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, in Orono, Minnesota.
Born on December 15, 1960, David lived a life that left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was impossible to overlook and was appreciated for his larger-than-life personality, infectious sense of humor, generous spirit, and relentless perseverance. Always curious about the world around him, he loved engaging in conversation with everyone who crossed his path. He never hesitated to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Nothing mattered more to Dave than his daughter, Grace. She was the pride of his life, and their bond was deep and unwavering. He loved talking about her and celebrating all she had become. David also shared a close relationship with Grace’s husband, Dallas Baldwin, whom he loved as family and treasured not only as a son-in-law, but as a friend.
David graduated from Knoxville High School in 1979 and proudly served in the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge in 1985 following a motorcycle accident, he eventually settled in Minneapolis, where he spent many years working with youth in a group home. He cared deeply for the young people he worked with and found purpose in being someone they could count on.
Throughout his life, David faced significant medical challenges. He didn’t connect with the word “disabled.” Instead, David would simply say he was “inconvenienced.” He refused to let those inconveniences define who he was or limit how he lived. Dave remained active in his community and gave his time freely through the Knights of Columbus. Whether helping with pancake breakfasts, delivering Meals on Wheels, working bingo nights, or doing yard work for others, David simply liked being useful and staying connected to people.
He was preceded in death by Lyn Conway, the mother of Grace, and by his parents, Robert and Jane Conway.
David is survived by his beloved daughter, Grace Baldwin, and her husband, Dallas Baldwin; his brothers, Jeff Conway (Jolene), Dan Conway (Laura); his sisters, Kelley Conway (Patrick Sweet) and Kristi Caldwell (Rick); along with 11 nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
David leaves behind countless stories, lasting friendships, and a family who loved him deeply. His absence will be felt by all who knew him.
