David Edward Glissman, 69, of Knoxville, IA passed away on June 18, 2025 at Iowa Methodist Hospital surrounded by his wife and kids. Born on May 19, 1956 in Des Moines, IA to Hugh Earl and Marcia Jean (Nelson) Glissman.
David attended Knoxville High School and graduated with the class of 1974. He was an avid basketball player and actually, until this year, was a part of the team that held the record for Knoxville High School Basketball.
He was united in marriage to Stella McCarty on May 13, 1978 at the Marion County Chapel and together had 4 children; Monica, Joe, Dan, & Stephanie.
David was hard-working and dedicated. He spent many years working in various different factories including Fawn, Rolscreen/Pella Corp, & Vermeer. Along with this, he also served his country for 22 years in the National Guard, Troop 3654. During his time in the military, he served in 2 different deployments in 1991 & 2003/2004.
Though Dave may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his life and love honored. He was a man of honesty, kindness, and love, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He had many quotes and was always quick to come back at you with a good smart-aleck response.
David’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He especially enjoyed being with his grandkids, often spending his weekends at their many extracurricular activities. He also had a love of music. It was not uncommon to walk in on him having his own little jam session, and there was only one volume... loud! On occasion you would also find him playing along on his guitar. He enjoyed reading, especially anything Stephen King. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and slow-pitch softball, even more so when his boys were old enough to enjoy the game with him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh and grandson, Dylan. His mother, Marcia, passed just hours after David on Wednesday.
Those left to cherish David’s memory include his wife, Stella; children: Monica Glissman, Joe (Melissa) Glissman, Dan Glissman, and Stephanie (Zach) Stuart; grandchildren: Haley, Taylor, Madison, Corissa, Graclyn, Greya, Ava, Peighton, Talen, Blakely, and Tinley; great-grandchildren: Taiden, Isla, and Kohen; fur-baby: Scottie; siblings: Karen Glissman and Leah (Doran) Davis as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
