David Edward Storm was born September 20, 1957 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of David LaVern and Connie Lou (Hartshorn) Storm.
David graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1975. During his junior
year of high school, he began dating Barbara Proffitt. The high school sweethearts were
married August 9, 1975 and have been together since. Shortly after he was married, David left
for boot camp, having joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He later attended
DMACC and then took a job at Precision Pulley, Inc. in Pella. David and Barbara raised their
three daughters in Knoxville. Wanting a career advancement, David attended Central College in
Pella where he earned his degree in accountancy and acquired his CPA license. He began
working for Schuring and Uitermarkt, in 1987 and remained there until his retirement in 2023.
In his spare time, David enjoyed watching sports; especially the Minnesota Vikings,
Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. When outdoors he could be found playing golf or riding
his motorcycle. He was also a fan of the suspense and horror genres and among his favorites
were the shows, Supernatural and Charmed. Most of all David was an immensely proud and
dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
David passed away Friday, July 11, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center, in Des Moines, at
the age of 67 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, David LaVern and his sister, Linda Norton.
Those left to cherish David’s memory include his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara;
daughters: Chelsea (Randy) Murrow, Beth Storm, and Megan (Chris) DesPlanques; four
grandchildren: Hannah, Ethan and Emma Murrow and David DesPlanques; mother, Connie
Storm; siblings: Cindy (Walt) Norton, Kevin (Daun) Storm and Jeff (Lori) Storm and many other
family members and friends.
A visitation for David Edward Storm, age 67 of Indianola, will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. The family will host a Celebration of Life gathering at the Auld Park enclosed shelter July 16, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
