Dixie Ann Foraker-Brown (Beebout) was born January 25, 1933 in Attica, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles (Pete) and Eunice (Mark) Beebout. Dixie grew up on the family farm in Attica, and loved spending her days with her dad in the fields, watching ball games, and enjoying ice cream together. She also loved riding and tending to her ponies her father gifted her. Yes, Dixie was a daddy’s girl through and through.

On the nearby farm, was the love of her life, Glen Brown. Glen and Dixie were united in marriage on September 7, 1951 at the Attica Methodist Church. Glen and Dixie suffered a great loss that year, when their infant son passed away after being born. They made the most of each day. When they weren’t working, they were enjoying life to its fullest.

Dixie loved to fly with Glen in their Cherokee, and even obtained her own pilot’s license. Dixie loved to travel, read, and she especially loved writing. Dixie wrote hundreds of poems. She touched the hearts of so many of her loved ones by gifting them poems.

Dixie loved her sweets! Pie and ice cream were her favorites. She also enjoyed making Christmas treats. Her fudge and peanut brittle were the absolute best!

Dixie was a member of the Attica Methodist Church, where she loved to play the piano and organ for Sunday morning services.

Dixie fell in love with politics, and found herself brushing shoulders with Iowa’s elite; dining with presidents as she boldly staked her place as a staunch Republican woman, assisting in many political roles and clerical work. It’s worth noting that this was not an easy task as a woman in those days. Dixie was a tiny gal, but her personality and drive to succeed let you know that she meant business.

She served as the Marion County Treasurer and the Marion County Auditor. Dixie’s endeavors also included starting her own company, Girl Friday Inc. Bookkeeping. She also provided bookkeeping services out of her home for many prestigious clients throughout her life.

In 1972 Glen and Dixie parted ways, and Dixie married Larry Foraker. Larry and Dixie resided in Springfield, Missouri, where Dixie’s passion for fashion, fine dining and entertainment was truly embraced. Dixie and Larry enjoyed hosting parties, and attending live shows in Branson, MO with their friends. They were members of The National Square-Dancing Association, and traveled around the USA to compete and instruct during conventions. Dixie made countless friends while residing in Springfield; but connected especially close with her life-long friend Rosalie, as well as Bob and Wanda. Dixie laid her husband, Larry, to rest after he lost his battle to acute leukemia in 1997.

They say ‘home is where the heart is’, and so Dixie said goodbye to the city life, and returned home, to the farm, to be with Glen. Glen and Dixie took this second chance to slow down, and enjoy the little things in life. Dixie served on the Knoxville Airport Commission for many years. She loved her poodles, Fanci Ann and Candy Lee. She also had a love for plants. At one point, she had over 200 plants in her house! Glen and Dixie loved spending time with their close friends, Wayne and Janet and Nick and Deb. Dixie and Deb especially looked forward to their nail salon trips, and pizza ranch nights where they filled up on Dixie’s favorite fried chicken. Glen and Dixie also loved spending time with their adopted daughter, Alicia and granddaughter, Riley Joe, going to dances and Flying Farmer meetings.

Alicia and Dixie enjoyed their weekly grocery shopping trips together and chatting while doing the dishes (while papa and Riley ate all the cookies and played pitch). Dixie especially got a kick out of Alicia getting them lost every time they went to Dixie’s doctor appointments together.

For the last 3 years Dixie has resided at Windsor Manor, in Indianola, IA, where she made friends with many residents and staff. The family would like to thank Windsor Manor for the excellent care and love that Dixie received. During her stay at Windsor Manor, she cherished the car rides with her nephew, Darwin, and the sweets that they shared on their nightly visits. Dixie peacefully passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at the age of 92 years.

Those left to honor her memory include her nephews Darwin Brown and Duane (Barbara) Brown; step daughter Alicia Brown; granddaughter Riley (Niels Scheelhaase); grandson Bradlee Glenn Moore; great grandson Colter Scheelhaase; great nieces and nephews Kevin (Angie) Brown, Kristi (Barry) Kreinbring, Jennifer (Nick) Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Eunice Beebout; her sister Vivian Alberta Beebout; her husband Glen Brown; her previous husband Larry Foraker; infant son; brothers-in-law Gordon (Willa) and Lloyd (Alice) Brown and niece Joan Brown.
