Eleanor Louise Cook was born June 10, 1921 in Springfield, Missouri the daughter of Chris and Bertie (Clark) Brown.
She was raised in Springfield and following graduation, Eleanor attended business school. She worked for a local attorney in Springfield until the outbreak of World War II. During the war, Eleanor worked at Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri in the transportation department. It was during this time that Eleanor would meet her future husband, Gilbert Cook. The couple were married on November 12, 1944 at Ft. Leonardwood. After the war, Gilbert began his career with the V.A. and the couple lived in Springfield, Missouri; Big Spring, Texas and Iowa City, Iowa before moving to Knoxville, Iowa in 1971. Gilbert passed away in 2002 and 3 years ago Eleanor moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to her son, Ken.
She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville.
Eleanor passed away Monday, June 22, 2020 at the West Ridge Care Center, in Cedar Rapids, at the age of 99 years.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert.
Those left to honor Eleanor’s memory include her son, Ken and wife Elaine of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Kathlene Hoech of Cedar Rapids and Kevin Cook of Arlington, Texas.
