Gary Lee Wallace was born October 6, 1933 in Lovilia, Iowa the son of Edwin Harold and Christine Lela (Pinegar) Wallace.

Gary was raised in the Lovilia and Dallas, Iowa areas. He graduated from Dallas High School. Following graduation, Gary enlisted in the United States Army. Gary served 2 years and returned home and drove a meat truck for his Uncle Chuck. On May 3, 1954 Gary was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Carton. The couple eventually made their home and raised a family on the farm southwest of Pleasantville. Gary not only farmed full time, he also raised dairy cows for many years. He drove a school bus for Pleasantville from 1974-2008. Additionally, Gary raised one of the top bloodlines of Morgan Horses in the country.

In his spare time, Gary enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch. Watching western movies and playing his harmonica were other favorite pastimes. Those who knew Gary will remember his ornery and witty personality and that he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

Gary passed away Monday, October 12, 2026 at his home, in Pleasantville, at the age of 93 years.

In addition to his parents, Edwin and Lela, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Tammy Bonnett; son, Gary Edwin and sister, Linda.

Those left to honor Gary’s memory include his children: Stephanie (Justin) Fehrer, Beth (Curt) Boza and Michael (Teresa) Wallace; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Legion Post No. 108 – Pleasantville, Iowa.
