Gregory Marvin Vandall, 77, of Pleasantville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at The Cottages in Pella, Iowa.

Greg was born on February 9, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Marvin and Frances Vandall. He graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1967. After a brief time attending Grandview College, Greg decided that working life suited him better. He began his career as a farm hand before joining American Freight in 1970. Greg was a proud member of the Teamsters Union for 45 years before retiring in 2018.

On May 1, 1976, Greg married the love of his life, Judy Jones. Their story began with a blind date in 1968. Together, they built a life in Pleasantville, where they raised their two children.

Greg enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He had a passion for old muscle cars, especially his 1959 and 1967 Corvettes, as well as boating, camping, and spending time with family and friends at Lake Red Rock and the Lake of the Ozarks. In retirement, he found joy working outdoors and caring for the couple's acreage outside Pleasantville.

In 1984, Greg's life changed forever following a devastating trucking accident near Greeley, Kansas, that left him with a traumatic frontal lobe brain injury. Over the next 15 months, Greg relearned how to walk, talk, and recognize his loved ones. His remarkable recovery was a testament to his determination and perseverance.

Those who knew Greg will remember his quick wit, playful sense of humor, and cantankerous spirit. He loved teasing others and never missed an opportunity to joke around. Even during the later stages of dementia, Greg's personality continued to shine through as he enjoyed sitting with others, people-watching, and sharing smiles with those around him.

Greg leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Judy; his daughter, Amber (Brad) Wentz of Pleasantville; his son, Adam (Emily) Vandall of Cleveland, Tennessee; eight beloved grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Marcia Harl; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Frances Vandall; his brother-in-law, Ben Harl; and his nephew, Todd Frey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Greg's memory to the WesleyLife Foundation or St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Pleasantville.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 23, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Pleasantville. Family and friends are invited to gather for one of Greg's favorite meals, fellowship, and the sharing of memories as they celebrate his life.
