Judith Ann Garrett passed away peacefully Thursday, October 30, 2025 at the age of 82 at Addington Place of Des Moines, Iowa, with her beloved husband and children by her side.
Judy was born February 24, 1943 in Lacona, Iowa; the daughter of William and Catherine (Schneider) Putz. Judy graduated from Southeast Warren High School in 1961. In 1962, she was united in marriage to Verle Arden Terrell. The couple lived in Indianola before settling in Knoxville. Judy attended the Des Moines School of Practical Nursing and started her nursing career at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. In 1983, she earned her Registered Nurse degree from Indian Hills Community College. Judy retired from the V.A. in 1997 after 31 years of service. After the passing of her husband Verle, Judy found love again, and on May 3, 2002, she was united in marriage to Chris Dean Garrett.
In her spare time, Judy enjoyed camping and playing cards. She liked to sing and learned to play the guitar in her 60’s. Her family enjoyed the benefit of Judy’s excellent baking and cooking skills.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine; first husband Verle Terrell, her brother, Ed Putz, step-son, James Terrell, and step-daughters, Cindy Dabb and Debbie Rojohn.
Those left to cherish Judy’s memory include her husband, Chris; children: Lois Terrell, Allyn (Penny) Terrell, and Timothy (Kristy) Terrell; step-daughter, Mary Kathryn Mackey, ; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Jerry (JoAnn) Putz, Marge Williams, Barb Hanna, Bob (Kay) Putz and Tony (Sue) Putz, and many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
