Kathy Ilene King was born June 30, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Wilden Hospital, the daughter of E. Dale King and Betty M. (Wilson) King.

She started her journey at two weeks as she joined her parents on the combine crew to harvest wheat in Kansas, Nebraska and North Dakota. Kathy attended North Lincoln and Craven schools in Warren County until the country schools were closed and then attended Indianola Community Schools. Her family eventually moved to the Milo area and Kathy graduated from SE Warren in 1969. She then attended John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, graduating in 1973 with a B.A. in Art Education. It was under the instruction of her professor, Ella Mae Mason, when Kathy realized she enjoyed teaching young people to appreciate art in their lives. Kathy’s teaching career started at the R-6 school in Ladonia, Missouri, where she taught for 3 years. She then returned to Iowa and taught at Westfield for 2 years before taking a job with the Melcher-Dallas Schools. She retired in 2010 after 34 years of educating young people about the beauty of art.

Kathy passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 63 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dale and her grandparents, Ben and Edna King and Bruce and Anna Wilson.
