Larry Lynn Rankin was born January 30, 1952 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of Worth Marvin and Myrtle Maxine (Kimler) Rankin.

Larry was raised in the Pleasantville area and was active in 4-H and FFA. He graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1970. Following graduation, he worked for Paxton Lumber, Highland in Carlisle and farmed with his parents. Larry then ran the front desk at Westberg’s Implement for 16 years. In 2005 Larry married Lori Carlson. He retired from Case IH in Indianola in 2008.

In his spare time, Larry enjoyed camping, fishing and riding horses. He was also a longtime member of the Lynnville Saddle Club. Larry was also involved in his kids’ 4-H projects throughout their childhoods.

Larry passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at his home at the age of 74 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Worth “Junior” and Myrtle and his wife, Martha.

Those left to honor Larry’s memory include his wife, Lori; children: Michelle (James) Pennington, Eric (Leah) Rankin, Hayley (Mitchell) Countryman, Jennifer (Justin) Lee, Jason (Jenna) Ekstrom, Lonnie Rankin and Lora DeGoey; 16 grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); 11 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Larry Rankin, age 74 of Pleasantville, will be held Monday, April 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum. The family will receive friends and refreshments will be served following the service until 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lynnville Saddle Club.
