Marjorie Lea Myers was born December 13, 1931 in Rock Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Cornelius and Alice (Feikema) Van Driel.
She was raised in northwest Iowa and graduated from Larchwood High School. Following high school, Marjorie attended nursing school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In November of 1953, she was united in marriage to Richard Wayne "Mick" Myers. To this union three sons were born: Kevin, Bradley and Todd. The couple made their home in Chariton, then later moving to Centerville. In 1964, they made their permanent home in Knoxville to raise their children. Marjorie was a Registered Nurse at the Knoxville VA where she worked 37 years before she retired. She was always a natural caregiver.
In her spare time, Marj enjoyed being a member of the Pine Knolls Country Club and the Knoxville Garden Club, where she earned the title of "Master Gardener". She worked hard in her garden, even into her later years. She was known to grow beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables and always had enough to share with others. Mick and Marj loved sharing their love for golfing together and she missed very few "Ladies Nights" at the golf course.
Marj also made her faith part of her daily life. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for many years. She lived her life with purpose. She was strong, even in the midst of many life trials. She was admired for her perseverance.
She treasured her family and enjoyed spending time with them and was known to go across country to build lasting memories. Some cherished memories were created when Mick and Marj took Josh and Ben to the Ozarks on multiple occasions. Just a few years ago, she and Brad visited Josh and family in Virginia and was able to climb up a significant hill while she was in her 90's. The grandchildren always looked forward to family dinners, as she was a great cook and baker. She made the best date cookies that the grandkids were always trying to snatch from each other. She had a glass candy jar, but you could never sneak any out because she would hear you open it! She gave great advice and never failed to show her pride and love for her family.
Her beloved great-grandchildren brought so much joy to Marj. She was known to always have photos and videos on hand to show them off. She didn't miss birthday parties, sporting events or special times in their lives. She loved seeing the kids in the costumes, spoiling them at Christmas, and watching them grow. Her dedication and love was evident in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Alice; her beloved husband Dr. Richard "Mick" Myers; two wonderful sons: Kevin and Todd; and her siblings: Joyce, Willis and Irv.
Those left to cherish Marjorie's memory include her son, Brad; five grandchildren: Joshua, Nicole, Kendall, Benjamin, and Katelin; five great-grandchildren: Olsen, Raleigh, Eve, Josiah, and Kyler; brother, Claude Van Driel and many other family members and friends.
