Nancy Kay Underwood (née Core), 84, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away September 13, 2022, with her husband Ben Underwood at her side.

She was born to the late Clyde and Wilma Core in 1938 near Knoxville, IA. Nancy graduated from Pleasantville Community High School in 1956, and later completed a degree in Physical Therapy at the University of California, San Francisco in 1962.

She worked as a physical therapist at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville before transferring to Jacksonville, FL, where she completed her career caring for disabled veterans, retiring from the VA in 1997.

Nancy is survived by her brothers Richard Core, of Forney, TX, and Ronald Core, of Des Moines, IA; husband Ben Underwood of Jacksonville; and their children John McBride of Pilot Mountain, NC; Peter McBride of Bellingham, WA; Anne Dolbier of Glen Burnie, MD; Jim Underwood of Hockley, TX; and Tammy Vancil of Bloomington, IL.

Visitation will be held on Saturday Sept 24, 2022, from 9:30-11:00, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at Mason Funeral Home. Internment will take place immediately following the service at the Pleasantville Cemetery. A luncheon at the Pleasantville Christian Church will conclude the day's events. All scheduled memorial events are open to the community.
