Richard James Huyck was born November 3, 1941 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Vernon and Frances (Konchal) Huyck.
He was raised in Minnesota and graduated from Catholic High School. Dick served in the United States Army and following his honorable discharge he began a career with 3M Corporation. He eventually earned a degree in Engineering as part of his occupation. Dick moved to Knoxville in 1973 to help establish the 3M plant that was under construction. He served as a supervisor and troubleshooter and had traveled around the world for 3M. On October 1, 2000 he was united in marriage to Kathy McKay. Dick retired in 2001.
In his spare time, Dick was an avid golfer and Minnesota Vikings fan. He also enjoyed bicycling and rode RAGBRAI for 20 years. He and Kathy enjoyed traveling across the United States and the world during their retirement. For sixteen years, they wintered in Hawaii for a month and they had a home in Green Valley, Arizona for many years.
Dick passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 at West Ridge Specialty Care, in Knoxville, at the age of 83 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Frances and his sister, Audrey Berger.
Those left to honor Dick’s memory include his wife, Kathy; sons: Gary (Mary) of Lavonia, Michigan; Paul (Tina) of Knoxville and Glen (Dee) of Knoxville; step-sons: Jason and Justin Bumgardner; three grandchildren: Jake, Bristol and Tyce and many other family members and friends.
